Regular Show - Thanksgiving Special - interior BGs

So here's the other half of layouts I did for the Thanksgiving Special. There were actually a couple more in addition to these, but they're not always as interesting to check out as you'd think. Sometimes the BG is simply a wall, a floor, maybe a window.
These ones were a lot of fun to work on. I'll most likely post the next couple of episode's I had the pleasure of working on over the next couple days.
Catch you tomorrow!

Cheers!

Regular Show - Thanksgiving Special - exterior BGs

Nothing really puts into perspective how behind on posting I am like sharing my work from Regular Shows Thanksgiving special in May. Which also reminds me that I actually created these BGs a little over a year ago. Wow how time has flown by!
If you're a fan of the show and you've seen this episode (which is awesome BTW), I was fortunate enough to design all the layout work on the blimp scene in the third act of the special.
I'll be sharing the interior's for the blimp tomorrow.

Cheers!

Regular Show

So probably the coolest bit of news I've yet to share til now is that for the past year I've been freelancing doing backgrounds for Regular Show over at Cartoon Network.
The first episode I worked on, is titled "Laundry Woes". It aired this past September, which I believe kicked off the shows 5th season. These are a few of the backgrounds I did for that episode.
It's been a really great opportunity for me, and I really enjoy the great folks on that show I get the privilege to work with.
The next episode I worked on airs this Thanksgiving. In addition to contributing to that episode, there are a few others that air early 2014 (I believe).
Thanks as always for stopping by!

Cheers!

Work projects

Here is a little peak at what I've been up to at work. A Background, a few re-skins for a game we run, and a look at a few character designs I did for our site. The first batch I thought I'd share a few rough sketches to accompany the final art.

I realize it's been awhile since I posted, there's been a lot going on in my personal life. I'll definately have a few more updates and projects to share soon.

Thanks as always for stopping by.

Cheers!

City Night

As I mentioned in my last post, my wife and I recently visited the 'big apple' and I most definitely came home inspired.  I feel like this piece is the first of (hopefully) many in a new direction for my work. I loved working on it. I used three photos from our trip as reference/inspiration and kept the painting to pretty much one layer in PS. It was a nice revisit to how I learned to paint, which of coarse was traditional vs. the digital standard my work has managed to become.
I could blab on for quite some time about my thought process and what inspired and excited me along the way, but I'll spare ya's. I did want to share the grey-scale of the piece above to share the importance of value in painting. I'm not saying I'm anywhere close to amazing or great or what have you to doing this, but I am pleased with my results here.

Thanks for stopping by! Til next time. Cheers!

Brooklyn Bar Scene

My wife and I were fortunate enough to take another trip out to New York this month. It was very relaxing, and inspiring. Kinda got my creative juices revitalized. I did a little bit of sketching and painting while there and want to explore what I did in the moment a little bit more at home. The above piece is a watercolor I painted in a cozy little bar in Brooklyn (yes these people actually had these hairdos). Below that I did a quick pass in Photoshop for fun. The second pass is much closer to the actual lighting in the bar, though i did push it a little for dramatic effect.
More NYC paintings coming soon.

Cheers!

Superman sketch cards

Here's a look at a few of the Superman sketch cards I recently had the pleasure of doing for Cryptozoic Entertainment. I actually did 100 in total on this batch. What's shared below is a little over half of my contribution.
The above set are most of my 'Superman' cards with a couple 'Super' powerhouses in that bottom row. It's fun and interesting how many looks the big blue boy-scout from Krypton has taken on over the years.
Below are the 'badies'. I love drawing/designing villains. So much fun.
Lastly, I had the pleasure of working with my buddy Jeff Victor (clicky here for more of his awesomeness) on a few jam cards. These are my two favorite, we did 6 total together. For these two in particular, Jeff sketched out Superman and passed the card along to me. I had free reign on choosing whom else was depicted on the card and putting ink and color to it for final treatment. Likewise I sketched out half of a few cards and vice versa. I have a huge soft spot for Krypto the Super dog, so it's no surprise he ended up on one.
Overall I'm really pleased with the final results.

Posting again this week, stay tuned! Thanks for stopping by.

Cheers!

Tuesday nights + Drawing = Tumblin

Realizing it's been awhile since I posted I thought I might take a moment to share my Tumblr address!!

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I'v been drawing on Tuesday nights, and while I don't always have the time to clean up all those sketches for the sake of sharing, I do tend to take quick pics with my phone and send them all to my Tumblr.
More posts here again soon, but in the meanwhile, enjoy!
 Cheers!

P.S. - I was originally going to label this post 'Drinking + Drawing = Tumblin', but for what I feel are obvious reasons decided against :)

Batman Sketch Cards!!!

So I'm finally allowed to share my second project with Cryptozoic, sketch cards for the upcoming Batman The Legend Trading Card sets. I ended up doing 70 total and you can check em all out below.

I must admit this was a dream gig. It really doesn't get any cooler then getting paid to draw Batman :)

Hope you enjoy checking them out as much as I did drawing them! I'll have a few artists proofs available for sale soon as well. Email me if interested.

Cheers!

Oh the people we see...

So despite the delay in my posting here, it's safe to say I'v still been busy been drawing. A lot. I'm rather happy with the work below, it's all a result of me really trying to explore character design through drawing every day folks out and about.
About a month or two ago I decided I needed to establish some set time once a week and be drawing out in public. Though this idea is of coarse nothing ground breaking or new as so many amazing artists do this better then me and ALL of the time, I felt compelled to make a sort of 'event' out of it and extend an open invite to my many wonderful co-workers as well as any individual who artists interested in good company and an excuse to get out and draw on Tuesday nights.
So, if you ever think you might find yourself in the vicinity of Pasadena on a Tuesday night and have a hankering to sketch some people in good company, please by all means drop me a line. All are welcome!
As always, I thank ya for stopping by! All the best for the Holidays should I not post again til the new year! Be safe and love each other!

Cheers!
